A bit about myself
I am currently a PhD student at the Bioinformatics Research Center and the Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark. My main academic interests lie in the fields of algorithmic bioinformatics, algorithmic engineering, high-performance computing, and mathematical and statistical models with applications in bioinformatics, such as population genetics.
So far my research has been focussed on speeding up algorithms for hidden Markov models using multicore CPUs with Streaming SIMD Extension (SSE) instructions and GPUs. This has led to the development of HMMlib and parredHMMlib.
At the moment I am working with Paula Tataru on algorithms for analysis of hidden Markov models, restricting on occurrences of patterns in the hidden explanation.
In my spare time I enjoy running. I run up to 100km per week and attend training sessions in my running club, Aarhus Fremad Atletik, 2-3 times a week. My personal records are currently: 10km, 36.07; 15km, 57.48, half marathon, 1.24.36; marathon, 3.13.55, but I expect to improve all of them during the spring. Besides running, I get my weekly dose of Scottish snare drumming every Monday night in Aarhus Pipes and Drums.
That’s all for now.
Enjoy!
